Ruth Norton recently retired as the chief conservator of The Field Museum. Early in her career she practiced, and provided, conservation training at the National Museum of the Philippines and, after becoming the chief conservator at The Field Museum, examined and helped to conserve, the 10,000-object collection at the museum. Here, she reveals the important nature of museum conservation.
